Number of Days: Phonemic Awareness Phonics Fluency Vocabulary Comprehension Target Audience: K-3 teachers, Special Education teachers Program Description: A five-day Summer Academy will introduce K-3 and Special Education teachers to pre- reading, during-reading and after–reading strategies appropriate to each grade level. Strategies are research-based and will help students with phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. This series will be Make and Take Workshop. Teachers will walk away with games, materials, lesson plans, and centers to use in the classroom All teachers at a grade level will be invited to observe in the demonstration classrooms. The Summer Academy will serve two purposes. The first is to give the trainer and the Literacy Cadre an opportunity to organize and plan. The second is to introduce all teachers, including the Literacy Cadre, to many strategies in the five components of reading. |
