Program Description:
Days One, Two, and Three of this Writing Academy will include 6 Traits +1 Writing training and practical application of these traits. Days Four and Five will empower the teachers with a thorough knowledge and understanding of the Reading/Writing Connections and Writing in the Content Areas.

Teachers will be able to successfully implement research based writing strategies and analytically evaluate their students’ writing samples. With this information, the teachers will be able to provide their students with specific information to improve their writing scores

WRITING ACADEMY

5 Days of Writing Strategies

Target Audience:
K-12

Program Description:
This Writing Academy will be delivered in two parts:

2 days of the writing academy will empower the teachers with a thorough knowledge and understanding of the Reading/Writing Connection and Writing in the Content Areas.

3 days of the writing academy will include 6 Traits +1 Writing training and practical application of these traits.

Teachers will be able to successfully implement research based writing strategies and analytically evaluate their students’ writing samples. With this information, the teachers will be able to provide their students with specific information to improve their writing scores.

WRITING CLASSROOM DEMONSTRATIONS

Target Audience:
K-8

Program Description:
Each month, the focus will be on one of the 6+1 Traits of Writing/4 TAKS writing objectives. The consultant will work with students at each grade level demonstrating the targeted trait and strategies. The students will create a written piece, either as a whole group, in small groups, or as individuals. Both the teacher and the students will learn how to evaluate the written work for the specific trait. Suggested book titles, lessons, and additional strategies will be provided for follow-up instruction and practice.
